Asian lady beetles are: oval and about 1/4-inch long. Their color can be from orange to red. They often have black spots on the wing covers, although on some beetles the spots may be indistinct. Multi-spotted Lady Beetles tend to be female and those with few or no spots tend to be male.

The multicolored Asian lady beetle feeds on insect pests in orchards and forests but may also occur on row crops and in gardens.Lady beetles have four distinct life stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. The multicolored Asian lady beetle adults begin laying eggs on host plants in early spring.
Where they came from:
The Asian lady beetle is native of eastern Asia; specifically Japan. It is very hot and there is lots of rain.
How they got here and why they were imported:
Asian Lady Beetles got imported accidentally not only from japan but from Russia and Korea, and released in the United States as part of a Federal effort to naturally control insect pests in trees. During the late 1970s through the early 1980s, tens of thousands of multicolored Asian lady beetles were intentionally released by the U. S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service in an effort to control insect pests that injure trees.
What effect have they had?
Although Asian Lady Beetles have not had a serious negative affect, they are known as very annoying pests. They are known to congregate in large groups on the sides of houses but very uncommonly move into the house. Also, they have destructed a native species to Canada known as Coccinellidae, also known as Lady Birds.
Lady Bird: Native to Canada
They have largely kept bug populations down, like they were brought in to do but because of that has increased their population by millions, but there are no widely usable methods that can be used to control this.
What strategies have been used to control the population:
There have not been many large efforts made to control the population of the Asian Lady Beetle but for infestations, most people would call pest control or use insecticides or a vacuum cleaner. Although they do not really affect the population largely, it helps with small problems.
What lessons have we learned from this invasion?
We know now that bringing in a different species that cannot easily be controlled can result in an explosive population of them and can eventually have negative effects on the ecosystem.
What can you as an individual do to help slow its invasion?
As an individual, there is not much you can do to help but you can take care of my infests if I get any. And do it in a nature friendly way like using a vacuum instead of insecticides that could also affect the Lady Bird species that is already threatened by the Asian Lady Beetle.
B3.5 Identify various factors related to human activity that have impacted on ecosystems (the introduction of invasive species) and explain how these factors affect the equilibrium in an ecosystem.
