Welcome Mr. Luciani's Period 4 Science 1D1 Class!!
Wanted: Invading Species
START DATE: December 13th.
DUE DATE: December 17th - PART ONE
December 19th - PART TWO
Many plants and animals have been imported to a new ecosystem either by design or by accident. Many arrive on ships, or in the packing of a crate containing a shipment, and “come ashore” entering the new ecosystem.
Humans have also imported new species into a country. Sometimes it is for agricultural reasons (cows, pigs, wheat, pineapple, etc…), or sport (rabbits, foxes, swans, transporting firewood, etc…) or for beauty (landscaping). Others have been imported to have a desired effect on a particular species in the ecosystem and have not been successful.
This assignment is in 2 parts.
In this activity, you and your group will choose an invading species and research its characteristics. Your research will be based on the questions given below.
Format: - wiki page
[DON’T JUST CUT AND PASTE INFORMATION – REWORD IT AND USE SCIENCE TERMINOLOGY FROM THE COURSE!!!]
PART ONE:

Works citied
PART TWO:
When ALL the wiki pages are complete, you must visit pages designed by your peers. There you will be able to read up on their research.
Go to the comment section for a specific invasive species that you have chosen to and ask a question to your peers about their research or species OR provide more information such as other ways to combat the invasion.

PART ONE:
Research Questions:
- Identify your species
- Describe some of its characteristics (feeding habits, life cycle, limiting factors (predators, consumers etc…)
- Where did it come from (describe it’s home ecosystem)?
- How did it get introduced into our ecosystems?
- What effect has this invader had on its new ecosystem? Why is it thriving?
- What strategies (if any) have been used to control the invader? Comment on the effectiveness of these strategies.
- What lessons have we learned from this invasion?
- What can you as an individual do to help slow its invasion? (If anything.)
